001 : childhood. born in the near-abandoned town of ochopee, jude spent most of his childhood in the swamps of the florida peninsula. raised by a single mother, he had ample time to himself, spending time tinkering on household electronics to improve them. this time alone solidified his nature as solitary, stoic, and closed-off, and his fascination with the folklore of the region only contributed to his social isolation.002 : the incident. visiting family in connecticut for christmas at age eleven, he saw a small girl trapped in the middle of an icy lake. inexperience in winter climes had him clambering on the thin ice in a desperate attempt to save the girl — a futile attempt, as she vanished before his eyes. with the wind gusting, the ice cracked beneath him, sucking him under the ice that capped frigid waters. Hi cousins saved him almost too late, resulting in jude losing his hearing in one ear. no one believed his rationale for being on the ice and chalked it up to the attention seeking behaviour of a child. Months of logical debate with his mother did little to dissuade jude that the girl he’d seen had been real, and, more importantly, unexplainable. 003 : lou. a solitary childhood led to an even more closed off adolescence — jude sunk into his room, closed off from the world outside of his computer. Trolling forums for shreds of information on the impossible became a pastime that broke up the monotony of school, but it wasn’t until a chance meeting with a stranger on the other side of the world did he truly feel seen. luther — lou — and jude bonded quickly over the similarities in their childhood experiences with the paranormal and their burgeoning fascination with all things supernatural. Years of communication, travel, and more than a few conversations with his disappointed mother saw the culmination of their efforts completed: the founding of specs & techs. now the pair travel across continental america, offering their assistance to those in need.
